Our look at the North American and Pacific Championship League of Legends esports teams that have qualified directly to the main event of the LoL world championships.
The most famous team in North America, the popular organisation has retaken its place as the top NA team after scares from Team Liquid and Cloud 9 over recent years. A closely fought summer split this year had TSM finishing in 4th during the regular season but as is so common as soon as play-offs came around TSM upped their game, though not immediately. After a shock 3-0 loss to Golden guardians in the first round TSM fought through the losers bracket beating every team that finished above them in the regular season showing that the best of 5 is truly their favourite format.
With Doublelift back and Bjergsen still at mid lane there is high hopes for this roster coming into worlds but the question will always remain as to how competitive is North America really. Many believe this is the best chance for NA since Cloud 9’s 3rd place finish in 2018. If that faith is misplaced is up for debate.
Suggested Betting: Doublelift to have highest kills in group stages. His mechanics are still on point and as long as he is not forced into Ashe should be outplaying any other ADC.
FlyQuest made some major changes to their 2020 roster with the aim of becoming a major contender in the North American scene. Bringing in veterans Power of Evil and Ignar from Misfits to complement their already experienced roster they did just that. Finishing 3rd in a close fought regular season they made it to the finals only to lose to TSM in a nail-biting 3-2 loss. This was enough to grab the second seed from NA and avoid the play-ins.
Questions will always be asked about ADC WildTurtle and if he can perform at the top level with the consistency required. The current Meta favouring supporting ADCs may help him in that regard but unless he is well protected he can cost his team the win.
Suggested Betting: First Blood against them, Santorin has the nickname Passive Ward for a reason and will rarely look for any early game plays.
The Taiwanese first seeds did not come through the easy way, despite an OK regular season going 13-5 that was just enough to get into the first round of playoffs. This did give them the opportunity to show off their adaptability over the course of a best of 5 series. Making it to the semi-final before being beaten 3-2 by PSG Talon, this didn’t deter them as they brushed aside the more fancied J Team before getting revenge on PSG Talon in the final by sweeping them 3-0.
Their success will be down to the ability of Koala to lead this squad of relative newbies. As the most experienced player and shot-caller from the support role a lot of their plays will come from his roaming. A dark horse team but if TPA can win worlds then there is nothing stopping these players from emulating that success.
Suggested Betting: Koala to have highest kill participation in group stages. Despite being lower in PCS his ability on Thresh and Leona will be vital against higher calibre teams and expect him to be a lot more involved.
